Workers pressure-wash the vessel Saamis Adventurer in a decontamination zone, upriver from New Orleans, of the Mississippi River Saturday. The decontamination zone was established to begin moving vessels affected by Wednesday's oil spill out of the river. Pressure washing the contaminated vessels is the most effective way to clean them. The oil that is washed off the vessel into the river is collected by containment boom and skimmed off the surface. (Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Nick Ameen) The master of the vessel Overseas New York signs documents Saturday releasing his vessel from the Mississippi River after his vessel was decontaminated. The Overseas New York is the first decontaminated vessel released from the river. (Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Nick Ameen) | |
